All I know about the numbers is from a wiki, and that states there were 4,592 zouaves in 1868. That is out of a papal army strength of 11,000 in the 1860s. I do not have any other info on organization, unit strength, etc. The only mounted troops mentioned anywhere are a unit of "heavy" cavalry which seem to have been a papal escort.
